Energy Supply Solutions
A healthcare facility having equipment requiring electrical power needs its own power resource, even if only as a back-up in the event of a failure of the area power grid. If a power grid is lacking or unreliable, an alternative energy source is essential. A fossil-fuelled generator is one possibility but there are some more interesting and inventive alternatives. There is considerable overlap between commercial and improvised energy supply solutions so rather than separate information sources into commercial or do-it-yourself type categories, both are included in this page. Where the pages are specific in nature they are categorised according to the energy source used for generation (wind, water etc). Listed here are a few sites (some commercial) offering useful information about alternative energy resources.
Wind-Based Energy Supply Glenn Littleford of Queensland, Australia has an excellent page dealing with his own experiments into wind-powered electricity generation using DIY projects, including a number of very detailed sets of instructions for a variety of designs. Some theory behind the process and another detailed DIY design, all by Glenn, were published as a three part series in Silicon Chip magazine, all available online (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3).
